FernCare Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is a "free" medical clinic?
This is a medical clinic that requires no payment from patients/clients.
Most of the staff volunteer. The range of services depend on who volunteers
and what services appear to be most needed by the local community.
2. Who can use the clinic?
This is decided by the clinic's board of directors. We
are in the process of selecting a board.
3. What clinic services will be available?
At this point, we don't know. We are just too new.
4. How can I volunteer?
E-mail your information to the CFF address; CFF48220@
aol.com. Please indicate if you would like to volunteer to work in the
clinic or with the Board.
5. How can I donate money?
Send your check to FernCare, c/o Citizens for a Fair Ferndale,
398 W. Hazelhurst, Ferndale, MI 48220. You will receive a donation receipt.
Money is always welcome. All of the clinics rely on donations, fund raising
and grants to stay open.
6. When will the clinic open?
Just as soon as the paper work is in order and we have
enough volunteers.
7. Why put a clinic in Ferndale?
Need. Very shortly, we will put in the relevant health/medical/lack
of insurance information in this space. There is information on the state
of health of southern Oakland county, we just have not yet compiled this
research. This will be one of the first tasks for the new board.
8. Is there any one place where health/medical resources
are listed?
No. Blue Cross/Blue Shield puts out a booklet "Help
with Health Care - Resources for the Uninsured" with a lot of information
but not everything. The booklet is available by calling Blue Cross at
313-255-9000 for a copy or downloading copies from the Web (bcbsm.com)
in PDF format.
Once again, one of our early projects will be to put together a resource
packet specifically for southern Oakland county.
